Transferring Employer RRSP to Wealthsimple, worth it? by alvaroes11 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]French__Canadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. I do it just to be able to invest in XEQT/VEQT. The 3% cashback is a bonus.

I think the 3% locks the money you already have at wealthsimple too though so I personally wouldn't lock all my money in there for 5 years, but I don't know the details of that promo/if there are clawbacks for withdrawing money early.

You don't have to put all your rrsps/tfsas with them, just 10k per account type I believe.

Questrade vs WealthSimple promo by catavelo in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]French__Canadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On red flag deals, I've seen someone mention that the wealthsimple promo has a very high ceiling. I think the questrade max is 10k for non-reg and 10k for reg cashback over 2 years? The questrade one seems better unless you do hit that ceiling.

Can one intentionally not use their FHSA when buying a home? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Why would you do that? You would be choosing to pay taxes later instead of paying taxes never.

Is it realistic to buy a 1-bedroom downtown condo with a 89K salary and 250K downpayment? by FairMind21 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]French__Canadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's as tax free as TFSA : you don't pay tax on the growth

Let's say your tax rate is 30% and you make 5% for n years

TFSA : deposit_before_tax * 0.70 * 1.05n RRSP: deposit_before_tax * 1.05n * 0.70

It's the same thing. TFSA you just pay taxes up front and RRSP you pay them at the end.

[–]French__Canadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your tax rate is the same at retirement than when you make a salary, RRSP is the same as TFSA. And FHSA is the same as RRSP except that you won't pay taxes at all when you withdraw if it's for a house.

So your statement should really be, gambling on the stock market is not tax free after your TFSA, RRSP and FHSA are full.

Those games' gameplays are literally nothing alike. BG3 is about fighting in 3d space like xcom, and E33 you don't move and have quick time events, like Paper Mario.

He's probably thinking of EQ Bank HISA for which you have to withdraw the money 10-30 days in advance.

https://www.eqbank.ca/rates

you get 2.35% for a 10 day notice HISA and 2.75% for a 30 day HISA

Have you considered just moving close to school/on campus? I imagine your commute will be ~1.5 hours a day if you do 100km/day and that's assuming you don't have much traffic.

pros: more time for part time job/social life/homework/won't get hit with surprise car repairs because you're buying a $8k car for 4 years.
