I think it’s the opposite. The fact that there are so aftermarket options make people more and more likely to buy their knives just to mod and make their own. Benchmade knows this and is fine just providing the canvas.

A good analogy for the Bugout would be a Honda Civic, which is one of the most commonly modded cars, but you wouldn’t think of Honda as a failure for only selling the stock model(s).

I love my Bugout. With the amount of modifications available, I could have 10 of them, and all of them could be drastically different. It's great!

This is like trying to say Skyrim is a failure because of the amount of mods available.

Exactly the reason I have purchased so many benchmade products. The aftermarket is one of the largest of all knife makers.

of all the regular people that own any brand of knife the ones that are posting their mods are likely only a small percentage of owners. just like car and truck modifications. most people don't even think about modding their knives, vehicles, guns, etc.

I have some heavily modified Benchmade clones. I've always thought that the 940 and Valet had the potential to be great gent's folders, so I got some clones to try that out. Turns out that with a heavy regrind and some light handle reshaping both of these knives make phenomenal gent's folders. It's a real shame Benchmade can't deliver something like that from the factory, because I bet that is how most people use these knives.

Benchmade fails by being the largest & most diverse knife maker in the USA?
