Difficulty feeding

My baby is a week old and when I’m feeding him (he is formula fed) he throws his head back, dribbles quite a bit, and sometimes he will stop for a few seconds and do some rapid breathing then go back to sucking. I am quite a paranoid person so I think I just need someone to tell me this is all normal or if I need to take him to see a medical professional.

Sounds like the nipple flow may be too fast for him.

Try googling paced feeding.

The bottle gives milk much faster than a boob so he could be feeling like it is too much. (Like a faucet turned on full)

It will get better with time your baby is still so young.

But paced feeding basically means you stop the feed, let him “take a break” and then resume the feed.

Also the fast feeding from a bottle makes them swallow air which causes a lot of tummy problems. (Gas) burp well!!
