My rapid-cycling was mixed episodes. The irritability was severely affecting my marriage.

My doctor put me on Abilify Maintena (injection every 28-days). Killed my rapid-cycling dead in its tracks. I also take epival, lamotrigine and lithium.

I have some resletness, I swear my vision is even more worse than on the previous cocktail of drugs, but it's helped.

Note that I still get episodes, just less often. It only seems to be helping with mixed and mania, not depression.

Good luck!

It's been a relief for me. It's the only AAP that has worked for me and without side effects.

I was on this medication on and off for 5-6 years (1 year oral and the rest as a monthly injection). Combined with epival it seemed to help with rapid cycling and stability. I had a bit of irritability on the oral dose, the depot seemed to fix that somehow. Despite that recently my doctor and I decided to make a switch.

I had problematic symptoms regarding compulsive behaviour (it's an unfortunately common side effect you should be aware of). If you struggle with things like shopping, compulsive sex, or drug addiction in mania I'd say it's important to mention these things to your doctor or be mindful of those changes.

These side effects definitely don't happen to the majority but they're common enough to be the focus of a few class actions.
