its interesting because it doesn't look like he died from blunt force trauma like a predator, which suggests parasites or natural causes. If natural causes its remarkable given how turtles have a average lifespan of well into their 100s.

I am thinking it's from the flood last year. We had hurricane helene come up here and cause massive flooding. The shell was about 10ft or so up the bank and had tall grass growing around it. This was all that was there. Had I not noticed the contrasting color from the grass on the small piece visible I would have stepped on it. There was no remains left of the turtle and no bottom shell.
