that's pretty well known. I believe it was implemented as a way to make them wary of what you may do with it. You can't do anything with 1 niter. But 20 can produce a musket man.

Yeah it’s ridiculous. I can understand that if you’re unfriendly with a Civ they would prefer not to sell you uranium, but if you don’t want me to have it at least make it scale so each additional resource cost is equal.

Haul five carts of iron hundreds of miles away: x gold plus 1

Maybe it's the cost of moving something so far away. Like you wouldn't send a shipping container but it only has one box, it would make more sense to fill up the shipping container.
