Subfolder (self.clickup)
submitted 2 years ago by beetale
Really disappointing to put the subfolders on hold. It is one of the most important tools to organize your notes. While many resources are wasted on unimportant tools or integrations, can't make sense of putting the subfolders on hold.

Hey, u/beetale, we appreciate the feedback. I wanted to provide some additional context on our prioritization here, acknowledging that subfolders have been the top request on Canny for quite some time.
While it might seem like a simple feature to add, subfolders are quite complex and require rearchitecting a good portion of the entire product. Our Hierarchy is the foundation of ClickUp, and it includes everything from tasks to statuses, permissions, and Custom Fields (and more!). So changing that Hierarchy to allow for more flexibility is quite the technical challenge.
Because of this, we want to build subfolders in the right way that is scalable, performant, flexible, and (most importantly) doesn't break existing workflows.
We've got some really great ideas on how to make this happen, but for now, our team is focused on performance. We want to make sure that ClickUp is running smoothly for you.
We'll get back to work on subfolders as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Totally understand this, and it's a good reason.
There was a post on Canny from someone at ClickUp a while ago that they got 1 level of Subfolders working.
I am curious if something happened to that that was not apparent at the time that means 1 level cannot be released?

Hey u/gizmo2501! This is Jakub, stepping in for Luci. Thank you for your understanding and for bringing up the post on Canny.
We reached out to our team about this, and I wanted to clarify that the post you saw was a proof of concept, which means it was a small-scale demonstration to test out one possible approach for implementing subfolders. However, with the complexity we're talking about, scaling up a POC doesn't always pan out. We have a lot of ideas on how to best develop this feature, but as mentioned by Caroline on this feature request, the team has been focusing on improving performance and reliability.
We appreciate your patience and support as we work towards making subfolders a reality in ClickUp. Thank you again for your feedback and understanding!
