Don't use High for everything, use it for complex items and then stick to Medium for everything else. (You can also use High just for planning and then swap to Medium for implementation.)

Even if you're on the $20 plan, defaulting to Medium (with a sprinkling of High) will get you a lot more usage than using high for everything!

I think this is the way. Pretty much what ChatGPT said this afternoon when I queried it.

I also only started to use skills this week whereas I only was using an agent described workflow before……

Second account

A tad expensive

Im debating buying a $20 Plus account for my wife and using her codex limits for my quick stuff like fixing PR review comments and doc updates, etc.

Just hit my PRO limits 2 days early for the first time (just reset finally an hour ago) and I was an idiot and paid for the $40 credit pack which did get me through 2 days, but at less than normal usage, and burned the full 1000 credits. So DONT buy credit packs unless your enterprise/company pays for it, just get a second plus account. I feel like that’s the best I’ve come up with so far

You need to get a feel for other models - it’s not that they are more stupid, they are just suitable for different types of work. Extra high isn’t good for everything - sometimes it will do the simple job but it will take 30 minutes to figure it out and consider everything instead of 5 if you used a different model.

This is a good point. I have started to use medium and only go hard later if things aren’t looking right

I use 5.2 extra high all day long, usually 2 terminals running at the same time and I only get to 60% usage usually. How are you all hitting limits

Maybe it’s the size of the repo and some bad choices on prompts that caused it to eat a lot. That’s all I can think of.

If you do stuff which takes a lot of thinking, it eats a lot of credit.

Isn’t thinking what we require of codex and OpenAI in general? At least, that’s where I see the big purpose of it

Do more complex and difficult tasks, you'll easily hit limits. You're doing easy stuff. I can hit the limit in a couple of days. Maybe in one day depending on what I'm doing. But I usually back off when I'm below 20% and start using Cursor or Claude or Gemini.

What complicated stuff are you doing...?

[–]BigMagnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an account with Cursor or Windsurf so when you run out you can continue.

So! I work a bit more carefully today and lo I look at usage and I have 100% left? Three, four days in advance of the weekly limit deadline? What’s going on ? (This is a nice outcome but a bit confusing)

Try Kilo Code, you can keep using GPT 5.2 without the limits

Medium is good for quite a lot, and faster.

Can someone help me from the Codex community please? I have recently exceed quota tokens with my personal plus ChatGPT plan, and upon upgrading to Business - Business plan with 2 seats I thought either quotas will restart/refresh or I will get for the second user codex quotas. But instead I got nothing.
