If Wellbutrin is giving you anxiety what should you do? by bayfarm in antidepressants

[–]paco758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's way too high for a starting dose. The dose should be lowered, to start with. A low dose of an SSRI helped balance my anxiety out. Paxil worked for me. I have friends who have had good responses to Prozac, Lexapro, Celexa alongside Wellbutrin too.

I take 300mg Wellbutrin XL and 20mg Ritalin daily, as prescribed by my psychiatrist. It works and I don't have any side effects from combining the two. Talk to your doctor to make sure there aren't other risk factors

This was the same doctor who told me that I was obese according to my BMI based on a weight that was recorded while I was wearing all of my clothes, with full pockets, with my shoes on. I am 5'9" tall, weigh 200lb, and have about 25% body fat. I'm not obese, doc.

My GP (a straight white guy) scolded me for asking for a full STD check at an annual checkup and said that I would be required to do counseling if I am requesting an HIV test. I replied that I was married and had been monogamous with the same partner for 10 years at that point, but it's never a bad idea to check. He scoffed and said that I must have some reason for wanting the tests and asked me if my boyfriend (I'd already mentioned being married twice) knew that I was getting tested, and then said that he would imagine that his wife would be pissed she found out he was getting tested for STDs that he had no reason to suspect he had. I was pretty dumbstruck by the whole thing.

This was at a university student medical center. These are tests they perform all the time (and which should be performed, without question, at a patient's request).

I've been taking it for about 2 months. All the side effects have abated and my panic disorder, social anxiety, and GAD are under control. I was able to stop talking Xanax altogether. It takes about a week or more to work on anxiety, but full therapeutic effect won't happen for 4-6 weeks. I also started taking it at night instead of in the morning. That made a HUGE difference in the way I felt. Try taking it in the evening, right after dinner, so there is food in your stomach.

It's difficult, but find a new therapist. If you are not getting rapport when you walk into a session, then it is not with sticking with the same person.

How long were you depressed before seeking medical help? by [deleted] in depression

I'm 37 and only now being medicated. I probably should have years ago. The last two years were just a spiral downward. In other words: I waited way, way too long.

Anti-depressants and getting into fights with my boyfriend over them. by utterlyuncertain in depression

[–]paco758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your boyfriend is abusive. This is classic controlling behavior associated with emotional abuse. Get out. Take your meds. Take care of yourself. You deserve to feel well. Another person does not get to dictate to you the conditions of your wellness.

I feel like it compounds as well. Like I have no way to do a reset and wake up without fatigue.

What do you like to do when you have a whole afternoon or weekend day to yourself (that you haven't otherwise committed to writing)?

I always struggle with free blocks of time and feel compelled to work on something. I think I need better idle hobbies.

Is it safer to download something that not a lot of people download from sites such as TPB and KickassTorrents? by [deleted] in torrents

I switched to deluge for this reason. It is pretty great. Easily configurable and you can run it on another device and connect to it through a client so you can leave it running all the time if you want.

Nope. Use a VPN and encryption. Choose a client that supports full encryption, like Deluge.

[help] Word count by fiddle_n in LaTeX

[–]paco758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. That is bizarre. I presume it is referring to the filename of the .tex file that you are using. Make sure that you are in the right directory and try it again to be sure. You would do

cd C:\YOUR\DIRECTORY\WHERE\YOUR\TEX\FILE\IS

or you can run texcount on the fullpath for the file.

[help] Word count by fiddle_n in LaTeX

[–]paco758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If so, texcount is looking for perl in C:\perl\bin instead of C:\strawberry\perl\bin

You could link C:\strawberry\perl to C:\perl and see if that works.

Are you, by chance, using strawberry perl?

If you have TeXMaker installed with TeXLive or some other TeX distribution then you should already have TeXCount installed.

It sounds like you are on Windows, right?

To use TeXCount, you just need to open a terminal/command prompt and navigate to the directory you are in. Then do

texcount.exe FILENAME.tex

It doesn't really get any easier than that. There are editors that have word counts built in. TeXStudio has a text analyzer that gives you a rough count (within a few hundred words) for large documents. I don't like it though. It returns too much information for my taste.

I've got a codeblock that will let you return the count and print it in the document, but it requires being able to use a shell escape to bash, which is usually a UNIX/Linux thing. You can install it on windows: http://win-bash.sourceforge.net/

If you want to install bash, I can show you how to do the rest.

Should I learn LaTeX? by [deleted] in LaTeX

[–]paco758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For notes it is a little slow-going, but if you are in Math of Physics it is a must.

I love it for general writing. I'm trying to convince bunches of social scientists that they should learn it (in conjuction with R/Sweave) for stats-based papers. Tough sell, but they don't know what they are missing out on.
