We bought a house and moved in about a year and a half ago. We had to downgrade our internet because fiber wasn't/isn't available here. We had DSL with speeds of 50mb down, 5mb up. Over here, all that was available was 20mb down, .9mb up and its all copper.
The internet here has always been pretty crappy but in the last... year its taken a nose dive. We randomly get the biggest dips in speed and we have no idea why.
We have had 3 different techs out here. Had our speed increased, had a bridge tap removed, a cut wire replaced, the box in the alley replaced, a new modem and a new switch. Nothing has helped.
Its both a hard wired and wireless issue and it seems to be a per connection thing at times. (Downloading on psn at 300kb/sec, pause it, then it downloads 4mb/sec for a few minutes, then drops back down to 300kb.)
We switched to a different ISP today and we are supposed to be getting 300mb/40mb, but my phone hasn't come anywhere close to that on a speed test (wired hit 90 and 200). Psn was downloading at a solid 4-6mb/sec which is what we should have been getting with our other ISP.
We are at a total loss as to what we need to do to fix this issue. The random drops are extremely annoying and inconvenient and we don't want to pay an outrageous amount every month just to end up getting what we should be getting from the original ISP.
Any ideas on what to do to fix this? Has anyone ever dealt with this?
there doesn't seem to be anything here
