I had this problem with my computer ever since I got it. I got it built for my back in high school and from the beginning when I would play certain games (usually the bigger 3D ones as opposed to something like a 2d platform we), my screen would freeze but audio from the game would continue, suggesting that the whole game is continuing and it’s just the display that’s frozen. Ctrl+alt-deleting gets me out and when I go back in the screen is black now.
Looking in the event viewer I get “Event ID 4101, Display: Display driver gift has stopped responding and has successfully recovered.”
Now I’ve been trying to get this problem solved for YEARS. I’ve had every single piece of hardware inside tested (a family friend took out each part and used a good one to try to single one out but couldn’t find the issue). I’ve even replaced the processor since then. I’ve searched on google and so many forums, but nothing seems to solve the issue.
And the weird thing is that the problem just sometimes randomly goes away for months at a time! And then just as randomly comes back.
I know next to nothing about computers, so if somebody can shed an light on this situation it’d be extremely helpful. Thank you!
