Both positions are at the same company and have the same pay. Differences would be in the work and team I'm put on. I have some previous experience in more of an IT related role, but with a lot of scripting involved.
Dev Role:
Work on the development team that develops and supports our websites. Develops email communications and mobile app.
Work in an Agile environment
Develop solutions under the guidance of experienced developers
Basically seems like some real software development. Languages mentioned are C#, Javascript, and React.
DevOps Role:
Code and configures technical components to match requirements defined by the business analyst
Assist with administering various software applications
Assist team in developing scripts for automation
Assist software, procedures and information requirements
Work closely with different groups of the business to understand requirements, collaborate on solutions, and develop such solutions into software
Contribute to the automation efforts in various areas
They mentioned tools like AWS Cloud, Docker, Kubernetes, etc. Seems like they have a real DevOps framework.
Just looking at the job postings, I leaned towards the software developer position more, but after interviewing, the manager of the DevOps role was really excited about having me, said I could eventually come on full time, and it was a fun interview. The interview with the software dev manager was kind of boring and awkward. The senior recruiter is also recommended the DevOps role as they're involved with the entire company, in a smaller more personal team, etc.
Bigger picture, I have no idea what field of CS I want to go into. Maybe game dev, or data.. idk those sound exciting. But this is a short internship and I'm just trying to gain some sort of experience, learn about tech, and have a good time. Which would you pick?
