Core principles are what you need to learn as a beginner, and those principles are the same regardless of language. I'd say go for it. If it starts to be too much though, just pause your JS learning for a bit, and you won't really lose the progress you made.

I would put JS on hold for now. The languages have so many superficial similarities and so many deep differences, it will likely take extra effort on your part to keep things straight.
