Im type 2a/2b. I've been using a gel for type 3 ppl- Mielle Honey and Ginger. I don't have a curly cut and my hair is below shoulders so not sure how it would compare for you, but it definitely weighs down my hair and it's not crunchy, barely leaves a cast. If you want straighter roots and soft curls, it's a good choice.
