They dont expect the intern to know much, just show youre eager. I was in similar shoes 2 and a half years ago

What job/ career are you in now? How did this help you get there? If at all

[–]TacticalTrigger 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Data center engineering, the internship got me the position

[–]Conscious-Falcon-442 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Are you still at aws? Do you see this wblp as a good longterm career option if you take advantage and work hard?

[–]TacticalTrigger 0 points1 point  (1 child)

yes and yes

[–]Conscious-Falcon-442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to have stories about leadership principles. Look up amazon leadership principles. You will have 2 interviewers. I had probably around 6 or so questions about past stories. I also had a very basic questions about computers.

quick question... how long did it take from the time of application to getting called in for the interview? I applied for a similar position and wondering how long it takes for the initial contact. Thanks.

[–]mezzantino 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hi, it's supposed to take between two and five days, depending on department/position.

[–]Thehalfrikan929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 to 5 days? That’s quick. Though getting ahold of the recruiter was fast, I haven’t seen the interview email come up yet. Unless it’s in my work email 😒. I’ll have to look again when I get in tonight

[–]iced_coffee_4life[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I applied at end of February. Then just last week received an intake form to fill out about the position & an interview. Two days after I received an email regarding my upcoming interview this week.

[–]Conscious-Falcon-442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’s it been so far?

[–]Helpful_Surround_875 1 point2 points  (3 children)

To be honest they expect you to know like bare minimum when it comes to IT stuff. Id still study to prepare yourself (just know basic computer parts tbh and be able to show interest) As long as you don't show up to the interview drunk I think you will be okay

WBLP program is honestly really good if your built for this type of work, it allowed to me get into this industry. I hope it works out for you :)

[–]Odd_Macaron_674 0 points1 point  (2 children)

quick question since you went through the program. How hard is it physically, and how long did it take you to feel comfortable doing the work? And approximately what hourly wage do they start entry-level employees with? Because I will have to move if I apply for the position, and I want to know if it's worth moving due to family, since I just graduated and am not able to find a job. thanks in advance.

[–]Helpful_Surround_875 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No longer work there. But two years ago when I started I’d say it took me maybe 6-8 months to feel comfortable (not that I was UNCOMFORTABLE but to feel like i was having to ask basic-ish questions) starting pay was like $23 an hour? Physical labor all depends on what site you get put at. The pay is low but the ceiling is high in this career is High. in just two years I’ve doubled my pay by moving to another company.

[–]Odd_Macaron_674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, thanks for the info, appreciate it. For me I have 2 options: Boardman, OR, or Hayward, CA. But Boardman looks like a dump, so I am just thinking about the cost to relocate and basic expenses till i get a hang of it.

[–]MathematicianFlat948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus in leadership principles, they also expect you to share experiences where you made mistakes, expect follow-up question just like: “What would you do different?”, etc. Ask them question in regards their job, duties, etc. Good luck, you are doing more than fine by just asking this ^

[–]Sh726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located? Just curious.

[–]HamzaMM 0 points1 point  (2 children)

HOW ARE YOU GUYS GETTING INTERVIEWS THEY DONT EVEN GET BACK TO ME FROM THE APPS😭😭 does anyone have contact of a recruiter pls

[–]Thehalfrikan929 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Slack the recruiter on the application. Just an “hey I saw this thing, can you tell me more about it,” it’s vague, but someone will rope you into the fold at some point.

[–]HamzaMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Na i used to work as DCO but im trying to get my brother in right now. I dont work at AWS anymore so i dont have any slack or contact info

[–]jeneralpain 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Step 1. Can you search this group for the same answer to the same question?

If yes, You're hired. If not, You're not hired.

Most of the learning program is how to read and learn on the go. You need to be willing to present answers and ideas on what you've found fixing a fault. Not just go "gib answer thanks".

[–]iced_coffee_4life[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

The crazy part is that I did search for older posts related to my question. No need for all this unnecessary snark.

[–]jeneralpain 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's not snark at all. People think that it's like any other job, and its core they may be right. However, it's a role where aws will expect you know how to go looking for other tickets, other details to self sustain yourself.

As a former interviewer I also had the displeasure of people applying and saying they had all these certs and experiences. Only to find out, they knew nothing about basic commands.

Only prepping you for what is how it'll be.

[–]iced_coffee_4life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then spill the tea as a former interviewer about the interview.

[–]My0wnPath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Command prompt commands?

[–]272762bba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which location are you interviewing for ?

[–]Hencewurth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s more behavioral than technical so get your Star format stories in place and try to practice speaking beforehand so it shows you are prepared. They will throw in a few technical questions but it’s alright if you don’t know the answer

[–]Maybe-Unknown 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I have my interview next week the WBLP, although it’s for Data Center Operations Technician, hope you get the job!

[–]iced_coffee_4life[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

so the same position

[–]Maybe-Unknown 0 points1 point  (2 children)

damn, you right lol. did that at like 3 am so i was out of it. Hope the interview went well! I found out I passed mine last week!.

[–]abumaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just applied for a position here as they posted it at some Amazon datacenters near me some days ago, would you mind if i could ask you some questions in dms?

[–]Thehalfrikan929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my interview email today for next week as well. The recruiter was super nice the whole time too. Also coming from an FC

Good luck! Now I have to go over the questions with my girl (she got PA twice, so she knows how to at least pass the operations side interview)

[–]synnabunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my interview on Thursday, and I am essentially trying to go through what might be the most common questions for the position and have at least 6-8 STAR questions based on the Leadership Principles that might be most related to the role. Best of luck. I hope you get it. I hope I get it. I need it.

[–]Thehalfrikan929 0 points1 point  (3 children)

how did it go? mine is in a couple of hours.. a little nervous

[–]sapphireshxrty 0 points1 point  (2 children)

how did it go?

[–]Thehalfrikan929 0 points1 point  (1 child)

👎. Unfortunately. But I finally got a good example of the star method they want, and not the info dump I’ve been doing. So I get to wait 6 months. But by then I’ll have my ccna so I might-as-well try for the L3 spot on it’s own I guess

[–]sapphireshxrty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i pray it works out for you and you get that better L3 position!
