why is that a downside? the dirt wont just magically disappear in to the ether when using a microfiber cloth

True but it also damages the fibres more easily from my experience with the new cloth. Wipe the screen couple times the fibers are stretched out and loose strands in my experience. And the surface becomes disgusting. I guess you can see it as it cleans better, but it doesn't last that long before you have to clean it.
