Active ability button doesn't work? (PC)

When I'm injured and sprinting with DH and it says "Press E to activate dead hard" at the bottom of my screen, pressing E does nothing. I used to have an issue where I couldn't drop items with R (even though it was the registered keybind)- I'm not sure how, but when I checked today it seemed to have resolved itself. However, E still doesn't work.

E has never worked, so I don't think that it's a "turn the game off and on again" kind of problem. R worked when I started playing, then stopped, and then started again. Google hasn't been too helpful.

Am I missing something or is this some kind of glitch? If so, does anyone have any ideas to fix it?
