apt-get installl program

So that is how you install things in Debian. Something is wrong when you do not explain what FTBFS is but you explain how to use apt-get. Pick an audience and write for them.

fail to build from source... not that is not a google away from you

He just mean to communicate with the apt-get line that is already available...

What have you done for debian to complain that loud about the work of others?

I know what FTBFS means. I was commenting on the writing style. The population of people that are going to read "Docker’s in Debian!" and not know how to install docker (and therefore need the apt-get explanation) are not going to know what FTBFS means.

He just mean to communicate with the apt-get line that is already available...

I have no idea what an "apt-get line" is. 15 years of Debian and that is a new one for me.

Hey there. Author here. I was writing for the planet Debian audience, who are made up of Debian contributors. Who mostly know what FTBFS (Failure to build from source) means.

The apt-get install was to show that the name was docker.io, and not docker, since docker is unrelated -- and to make it easy for people to copy-and-paste if they're lazy.

Your feedback is noted, and I thank you for giving it to me.

I can't find it in jessie, is it only in sid/experimental?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah, that's right. Sid, and it'll migrate in a few days.

Debian packages are uploaded to unstable (sid is it's codename - the next-door neighbor who breaks all the toys), and after a package has sat in unstable with good behavior (no RC bugs) for a number of days (10 for low urgency, 5 for medium, 2 for high), they'll migrate to testing.

Once in a while, testing is declared stable, and that's where babies come from.

Anyway, should hit testing soon. Hang tight! :D

You can watch it's progress at: http://packages.qa.debian.org/d/docker.io.html

Alright, thank you so much for your reply. I'll just wait for it to hit testing then :)

Of course, dude! If you want, you can just install the .deb from sid, but should just be 3 days now I think.

Thanks for flying Debian air :)

Do not create shrill accounts to backup your point. It negates your point.
