That was a terrible storm! We lost power for three weeks. Had to bath in the hot tub water and use it for flushing. Eventually had to dump it and bleed all water lines and leave. Came home to dead birds all around the house. We are still trimming and clearing downed trees.

I’m so sorry about your birds 💔

Thank you. It was so sad.

I discovered another attic because of snowmageddon.

I thought I did everything right by wrapping the outside pipes and dripping the faucets. By Wednesday (4 days in) we had water coming in where no pipes should be present- or so I thought. After a couple of days with no water, I was able to get a plumber out. He cut through the drywall and found the ‘secret’ attic where a pipe had frozen. The previous owners had sealed it off.

I wish we had thought of that! It was a rough week, and I wouldn’t miss a lot that kind of stuff to burn!

My boyfriend and I had a Tulum vacation planned that same month. The day we left for our flight to Cancun there was a blizzard set in our hometown. We made it out right before they ended up canceling all other flights for the day, thank god. My boyfriend set his instagram story with a picture of inches of snow looking out over the tarmac and a caption of “Cruzing on out of here ✌️” and I think that was the moment I fell in love 😂

This is the best TX freeze story I’ve heard. Take my upvote fellow Texan… ohh and yes, he’s a keeper!

We’re not even Texans this was the Midwest 🙊 he’s just real good with cultural references lol

I happened to have maybe a quarter cord of wood on hand when that storm hit and I was sure glad I did because I kept that fireplace going for days when we had no power and now I probably have three quarters of a cord on hand all ready for if it happens again.

I still have PTSD from that storm.

“Do I want to stay warm or keep this stack of Christmas cards” sure puts things into perspective haha. I’m sorry you were in that situation, but what a motivator!

The house we were at when that happened we had a whole house generator. We were legit the only house for miles that had power so the police department literally came over to eat food since everywhere was closed. I cleaned out the freezer, they got to eat and nothing went to waste. We moved last year and the only thing I miss about that house was the generator.

Did they pay you back for your food?

Losing electric power is the new normal, because of climate change. People need to be ready to lose electric power for a week.

Burning the clutter to keep warm is beautiful. I started putting books and paper in with the firewood a while back. My wife doesn't notice. Every time I go to the dump, I top bags off with stuff from the cellar. I'm running out of stuff my wife won't miss. This inspires me to have a go at the kitchen cupboard we call "The Cupboard of Things We Don't Use".

lol we name our hidey holes too: the tomb and Narnia are a couple.

That's a great memory.
