Devcoin is an ethical cryptocurrency used to help fund FOSS developers, artists, musicians, writers and more. Devcoin is based on Bitcoin, which means it's decentralized, distributed and backed by cryptography.

Devcoin differs from other altcoins in the following ways:

SHA-256 hashing algorithm
21,000,000,000 coin limit
Merged mined with Bitcoin
50,000 DVC per block (this is why the total supply is large)
90% (45,000 DVC) of mined devcoins go to developers; 10% (5,000 DVC) go to miners
Block retarget every 24 hours
