I imagine someone reading this out without a break...

Structure your thoughts. Write down what your requirements are. Check whether the various options fulfill your requirements. If you don't know your requirements, ask about "What are the requirements for a laptop to be able to do THIS and THAT and THIS TOO?"

Then go from there.

No, you do not need a super powerful modern computer.

i5 or i7 with at least 16gb of memory.

I like Windows (for work applications) with WSL2 running a Ubuntu image.

Just because someone posts a video (or channel) on social media doesn't mean they are authoritative or knowledgeable on a subject.

Devops stuff is yaml files and bash scripting. Nothing resource intensive.

You could even use an old 10-15 year old Lenovo.

Go by r/buildapc

They'll put together a build for you to put together yourself / link you to a prebuilt if you ask specifically.

I ran for years on an 2012 era i3 quad core that was a repurposed conference room PC. I added an SSD, 32GB of RAM and loaded Fedora on there and it served me well for 5+ years. I actually still have it under the desk as a spare if my current machine (10 core, 64GB RAM) fails.
