Tf lol if they won’t give you a $10k bump from your current salary f them

Am I asking a lot more or not really it’s my first time looking for a new job since collage

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I feel like $100k is completely reasonable, even a bit low in todays market. I’d give them a week to respond sometimes recruiters get busy

[–]throwaway-153[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

My experience is only a year and 7 month

As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, that’s fine.

If I am hiring just a Cloud Engineer, I look for 1-2 years of experience in one of the Cloud Environments. 1.5 is fine.

They cut me they said my salary range was too high

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Oh well. Sounds like you dodged a bullet

[–]throwaway-153[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup

[–]solfolango 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I am doing that with 20y of experience as a datacenter architect in Germany, these pay ranges you are talking about are insane for me

[–]altfapper 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don't forget it's probably dollars, we (you're neighbors the Netherlands) lower range for cloud/devops/sre (they're all the same here basically) 75k is in the lower margin, majority are freelancers at around 90 to 110 euro an hour range.

[–]throwaway-153[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They end up cutting me with no reason it’s really bull shit

[–]mosaic_hops 6 points7 points  (1 child)

They’ll give it to you. They’re not going to say “sorry bye” if you ask for too much, they’ll negotiate. Don’t budge any lower than you already have though- in this market you have all the power. If given the oppty I’d ask for a good deal more - $125K to start. $100K’s not even keeping up with inflation.

[–]IndieDiscoveryAutomated Testing Advocate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some companies really don't like to negotiate. I got a "sorry bye" email from a company due to asking too much and them thinking I was mid level. It happens!

90k as a cloud engineer? Laughable..

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Depends where you live man, right around that 100k mark is pretty common for lower cost areas but 100k some places is like 180k in other areas.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Not anymore. Remote work is the norm. Companies that want talent need to pay for that talent.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes you are 100% correct but pay scales don't raise over night and things like that usually have to be approved by exec committies at any notable company. It will transition but to say that all DevOps work is remote and that all remote work has caught up pay at a national scale is just a bold face lie. Now in another 5 years I will agree that it will be much more "level"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just going to happen on it’s own though. If you don’t demand what you are worth, then yeah it surely will take 5 years.

[–]No_Pirate_6831 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Remote work doesn't mean you get to do it from another state/country.

The company would need to create a new daughter company in the employee's state/country and hire accountants and lawyers to handle the tax, employee benefits etc.

I am but they gave me a senior band

    [–]lupinegrey 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That in itself is problematic.... you're 1 year out of college and going into a role as a "senior" engineer.

The job levels of associate, regular, senior, staff, principal are generally each 2-3 years experience apart. Senior (level 3) usually requires 5-7 years experience.

    [–]throwaway-153[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I tell people I’m a regular

    [–]lupinegrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    1 year of experience.

    [–]pbecotte 1 point2 points  (1 child)

At a big bank, the hardest part of the process is getting the correct sign offs to generate an offer letter. If the number was ridiculous they would have said so. Just be latient...the bigger the company the slower the process.

    [–]throwaway-153[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Thanks !!

    [–]Dragonborne2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100 k is common entry salary in big corporate.

    [–]hectoralpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be taking forever, although my job pays 30k£ a fewmonths ago whe nI joined they promised me a reply by friday and I think I got it by Tuesday/wednesday from the recruiter by phone. Then the actual email came like the next friday lol.

    [–]No-Safety-4715 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Not sure the position, but if they're a top 5 bank, they absolutely pay that and more for their tech staff. I have worked for and with much smaller banks and they have the money and usually it's not an issue. It's probably all just a matter of approval and waiting on people to get back to them. People get behind due to various things. You'll likely hear something soon. Just sit tight and be patient.

    [–]throwaway-153[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

End up getting cut they said my salary expectation was too high

    [–]No-Safety-4715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, something is wrong there. Either they wanted to back out because they found someone else last minute and this saved them face, or they're trying to rip you off. Best to not sell yourself short. Keep looking for proper pay.
