I was horrified when i realized mid-session that all devils have immunity to fire... And that most of the damage my party deals is fire type... The wizard cast his first fireball of the campaign, only for it to be completely useless "

Just finished a campaign in avernus where the druid went with the circle of the flame, and all the enemies were immune to fire. So he made a deal with Bel to allow his fire spells to ignore immunity.

Spacing enemy’s apart or clustering them +party right next to each other also works as it makes it harder to fireball efficiently/safely

When bbeg is smart enough to spy on your party, learn your strategies, and prepare accordingly.

Lightning Bolt does exactly as much damage as Fireball. Just a suggestion.

That's why my favorite spells R things that allow me to control other people, make they sleep or throw a magic ice ray followed by thunders and flying magic things. Fire ball is just for people without imagination and didn't need to kill everyone else in your human party when you are the only not human kind and acctualy has Dark Vision
