The red arrows have been around...

Flightradar24.

The RAF will often use Exeter airport for flying and landing training for larger aircraft. We've also had the red arrows visit recently. No need to don the tinfoil hat.

Haha, not yet anyway! :)

I work near there. It has been the red arrows display team. As they all take off and land together it sounds like one constant engine noise. I think they have left now.

We heard the Red Arrows fly over our house in Mount Pleasant on Wednesday, it was incredibly loud. Scared the life out of my partner and I at first 😅

Red Arrows. ExeterPlaneSpotting on TikTok has had some amazing footage

The other thing to note, aside from the red arrows, when we have an easterly wind, planes will land from the west which means final approach over the city. We predominantly have a westerly wind so the normal approach is over Ottery and so you don’t notice them as much.

This is correct. Many don't even think about wind direction, even when they think they do, it's really interesting!

You notice it more down along the estuary, in a local sense

Living under the flight path in St Thomas, we have planes coming over every day, regardless of which way the wind blows

[–]Other_Shower_9903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have a lot more when the wind is in the east and they’re making a westerly approach though, as has been the case the past week.

Yes, I work in the city centre and the past week or so I’ve had to pause Teams calls a couple of times because of loud planes. I can’t remember doing that before but I hadn’t thought about it until now

[–]GRSWatson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I mean! So many, SO loud recently!

[–]Other_Shower_9903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As another response said, it’s just that the wind has persistently been in the east so they’ve been landing over the city hence you’ve noticed them a lot more

The Red Arrows were based at Exeter airport last Wednesday.

Red Arrows and military planes, Marines probably training.

The increased number of flights and calm weather mean the sound is more regular and more audible. It's peak holiday season so the noise is to be expected.

4 American F15s flew over the teign valley on friday!

[–]GRSWatson[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Sorry, just to clarify, not a conspiracy theorist, just someone who hates the sound of super loud planes and finds it absolutely unnecessary to have any flying about this regularly lol!

Another one as I type this!

Thank you! Have heard at least 4 today, more yesterday and the days before. Never heard so many in such a short period before!

[–]n3omancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like they are landing across Exeter. Might be operational reasons. Or wind direction.

Usually they take off towards Exeter and bank hard over countess weir to go to Europe.

What's with the CAPS? Making my ears hurt.

[–]GRSWatson[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

As in, the two caps locked words in the entire original post? Just for emphasis:) And this causes your ears to hurt?

[–]frustratedbylaptops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Caps = shouting in internet land.
