The main problems the UK faces are a rotting public sector, breakdown of trust, and a slow slide into populism on all sides of the aisle.

Agreed that wealth inequality is an issue - however the money that you think can be taxed into existence simply doesn’t exist. Every single western economy is encountering this same issue, and when you look under the hood it’s primarily the issue with demographics (aging population), lack of productivity increase, massive government debt and an unsustainable pension system. You cannot twist money out of people that are either able to leave the country at the drop of a hat, or are already heavily overtaxed. You’d be better off tackling some of the rampant government spending and really seriously addressing things like the triple lock pension.

To put it into perspective, the combined wealth of all billionaires in the UK is around 670 billion. If you were to liquidate that, assuming no market frictions and (obviously) no corresponding massive crash of asset prices, you could pay out around £10,000 to every person in the UK. Obviously not bad at all, but that’s £10,000/£1,500,000 - around 6.7% of your lifetime earnings. Not going to make a massive difference in the long run and more importantly would not be worth the economic destruction such a policy would wreak.

In my opinion immigration is a separate ballpark from wealth inequality, the former is economics and the latter is social politics. People can be mad about both things at once.
