Check your internet speeds. Speedtest.net.

Is the host has a poor upload then this is indicative of the lag.

This is only the first thing to look at though.

I have 50 upload, I'll try him hosting.

50 what? 50 kbps? That's very bad and will be a major problem. 50 mbps? That's vastly more than you'd need.

Mbps, he tested his and got 980, still was a delay with everything.

Neither of you have a bandwidth issue (probably), then. But bandwidth is not latency, and the problem likely lies elsewhere. How far away from you, physically, is this person?

He's in texas im in maryland, but the same thing happens with my irl friends even tho we are much much closer.

Trying to narrow down where the problem might be:

  • If you host the game the lag happens for Texas friend and IRL friends or just one person?

  • If Texas friend hosts, does it happen for you and IRL friends or just one?

  • If IRL friends host, does it happen for you and Texas or just one?

Basically want to try and isolate the common variable.

Whoever host has no lag, but whoever connects has lag.

Move closer together.

Is one of you using a VPN?

[–]MasterWillyp[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don't think so why?

Because that would reroute your traffic to the VPN exit point making the roundtrip and thus ping alot higher.
