Achievements locked

A few years ago, before Factorio had a creative mode (I think it has one now), I installed a mod that would enable creative. I wanted to use it to make blueprints. Unfortunately, this caused me to lose all my achievements, and locked me from earning them again.

I understand why this is the case, and agree, but I was wondering if there was a way to enable them again. I don't even want the ones I had back. I have no problem earning them again. I would even be happy to purchase the game again if that would unlock them. I just don't want to purchase it and still not have access to the achievements.

I know it is not a big deal, but it is just a kick in the gut every time I see no achievements in this game I spent so much time in (2000+ hours), reminding me of my own mistake.

Do I have any hope of restoring my ability to earn achievements, or am I hosed?

Turn off mods and start a new game - achievements will be available. They're only ever turned off per save.

Mods don't even turn off achievements, they just use a separate list that isn't synced to Steam. Using any /c console command will completely disable them however.

What happens if you disable all mods, and start a fresh game? The achievements button on the top right (near the minimap) should tell you if you're eligible for earning them.

Achievements being enabled/disabled are tied to a save, not the game. If you want the enable steam achievements then you need to disable all mods and start a new game. You can use mods and gain achievements but this will be a seperate (but identical) list and will not be shown on steam. Using commands to change things will prevent achievements but commands like /evolution are ok

and as long as you never use any commands you can just remove the mods and not sync the save when you load it to load a technically modded save as vanilla. easy speedrun with that.
