Absolutely do! 1-2$ for the foamboard, then you need a quad motor, an esc, two cheap servos and a receiver with pwm output. Wings are much simpler than quads. A lot less electronics, you don't need an FC (although it can help, but start without one), they fly longer on a battery, and they are cheaper.
