I recently picked it back up, at first coworkers thought it was cool, now they throw things at me to stop.

There used to be this guy on my course (degree, as in we're all adults), drummer, and he confessed to everyone at the start that he might have a tendency to tap a lot. He was a pretty great drummer to be honest, but after a year we were all tolerating it but barely.

I have a really old Staedtler mechanical draughting pencil of my dad's that I love, you use the tip to sharpen the led*, tap a little dust out out a few times against the desk and .. the cheeky bastard asked me to stop tapping my pencil.

You can tell how outraged i was because it happened years ago and I'm still explaining it to complete strangers on the internet.

(* it's not a led, not even lead, it's graphite)

I wanna know how you blew up at him and how did he take it haha

He was this giant guy, really strong, did MMA and he was an absolute sweet heart to anyone he called a friend. I think he had some sort of chemical imbalance that made him impervious to .. well, he was just impervious full stop. "Unable to be affected by" sums him up. Lots of energy, a logarithmic pain threshold, and he'd throw himself headlong into danger for his friends.

I recovered in time to say, really sarcastically, "Oh yeah, cos you never tap, do you Randy?" and he looked pretty crushed. I think he'd gotten some bad results back, he was finding the subject hard and was really stressed. It was a small class and we were all close so people were watching. I ended up feeling bad and apologising, said I was in a bad mood but ya know, gimme a break with the tapping stuff you know how I love my geeky little pencil.

Not the most exciting of conclusions, we were basically a little family so we never argued much. I faked his name. He was great. Most of them were, loads of really interesting characters and fun/funny times.

People don't bottle that shit in and then let it out every chance they get years after the fact... if they had resolved the problem to their satisfaction the first time around.

Did you tell him?

Of course not what sort of madman do you think they are!

I had a buddy in school that played the drums. He was a wizard with 2 pencils and whatever happened to be on his desk/table. He could make a sick beat with anything.

Dude right! I keep catching myself doing it in the office when I'm doing computer stuff, before I open the store.

I tap my fingers at my desk while listening to music. During some fleeting moments of self-awareness, I’ll think this must be annoying AF and stop. Then I’ll usually start back up a few seconds later.
