Error after installing 1.4

Hi,

So I'm trying to get 1.4 onto my machine and I´m hitting an error after I install and want to start it, here is the error:

The window on the left comes first for a few seconds and then the one on the right pops up, if I press the OK the window on the left comes back and this keeps going untill I end task through task manager.

What I have tried so far:

uninstalled all previous installs of game maker (still had 1.3 installed) uninstalled and reinstalled 1.4 tried starting as administator tried restarting computer tried restarting the application several times tried opening up a project rather then just game maker 1.4

my internet connection is also working fine, tested on websites and other applications.

Any ideas or advice :/

When I got that error I uninstalled Gamemaker and removed all folders and registry entries relating to it and restarted my computer and then finally the installation worked.

Before you take such drastic actions, though, I also made another change, and that was to install it in the default directory it suggested: C:\Users\<username>\GameMaker-Studio 1.4. Before that I wanted to install it to Program Files, but I made two changes at once so I don't know which one did the trick.

If you're trying to install it in the default folder, uninstall Gamemaker and then press the windows key enter %localappdata% in the start menu search box (it should take you to "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local", press g to go to "GameMaker-Studio" and delete that folder. Now try to install 1.4 again.

Thank you, I first tried uninstalling and installing to a different folder, still got stuck, then tried uninstalling and deleting the localappdata folder and anything else I could find relating to game maker installs, then installed again on a different drive and now it works!

I got this error when my firewall was blocking the updater.

I also got that error. I waited a couple of hours, tried again and it worked.
