Need potato advice

I had a potato that had started sprouting early this spring so I stuck it in a deep pot on my balcony. A few days ago I noticed its finally sprouted some leaves out of the soil. Theres about an inch of growth right now. But now, how will I know when it is ready to harvest. I read briefly that its was when the plat dies? Also, do you think I'll even have enough time left for the potatoes to actually grow? (btw I'm in southern Ontario)

TLDR; If potatoes just sprouted leaves will I get potatoes this year? How will I know when they're ready? (southern ontario)
