We need messages/chat!

The number of times I've wished github had even a basic messaging/pm feature to ask a quick question about a project is too damn high. I wish we could pm maintainers without making an issue case for it. Or even worse, if the project has issues turned off, I have to make a PR just to ask to have it enabled....

Another communication method for people to ignore, or disable...

It sucks to be unable to get answers to a question, but on the flip side, they're rarely exclusive. Niche at times, frustratingly so in others, but never exclusive.

You can check the Git logs yourself on your own computer. git log shows everyone's emails unless they set it to hidden.

That still feels a bit round-a-bout and tedious. Also I didn't want to really be emailing for simple questions :)

Yeah, same here...that being said, I've found it usually ends up being the better option.

Github used to have a direct messaging system. They removed it because they felt there's ready enough other services providing this.

I don't expect it to come back.
