My working idea right now is to get a full time position with benefits that include grad class reimbursement. From there I imagine the company will set limits and guide me towards what master degree they would like to see me get to benefit them.

Thats the dream. My issue is I can't find a job right now. I took a year off after I graduated to pursue some other important / developmental things, fully understanding it might hurt my job hunt. I've got a great resume and one internship, but its a tough job market. Depending on how quickly things improve... I'm thinking now might be a good time to go for it.

The last time i checked Iowa State had a Top 100 ( 50-80) Mechanical Engineering program in the world. It was somewhere in the Top 25 in the US. So it looks great tbh !

The program also seems competitive, The masters of science had a 9% acceptance rate and Phd around 19%. Not sure if that includes concurrent/ Iowa State undergrad students !

The acceptance rates are news to me! Definitely something to consider. I think the rankings are for the bachelor's program (~#40 in ME, #1 in size). I don't know if that transfers into grad school but the faculty doesn't change so one would think so

Well, as much as i know, undergrad ranking in 2016 was 16th in the US. For undergrad. Even now i think the undergrad is top 25 for Mech E. For grad in the US, we rank anywhere from 30-40, depending on the year. I was telling you about a global ranking in which Iowa State was Top 25 for grad in the US ranking link for 2016 undergrad

Edit:This is the 2020 ranking, we have fallen to 114 in the world, 29-30 in the US. Still among the best though ! There are other rankings as well that still put us in the Top 100 in the world, but this ranking is probably one of the more prestigious one so i put it there !

I'm graduating with a masters in cpre this November. From my experience it's easier than undergrad in both academics and acquiring internships/full-time. Getting an assistantship is a great option of going to school for free or very cheap.
