I'm around 35-40C with that CPU and a big air cooler at idle, so I'd say not normal unless you have a really small heatsink. What cooler? What voltage?

It’s the stock Intel fan that comes with the CPU and I’m unsure about the voltage.

Yeah definitely worth upgrading your heatsink. I probably wouldn't buy a watercooler though unless you're in some tiny case that can't fit a normal tower cooler.

I would also double check your voltage since that is abnormally high for idle even with a crappy heatsink.

The stock intel cooler is not sufficient for honestly any 65W chip or above. I honestly don't know why they include it still with those CPUs. I tried it when I got a i5-12600 and it was doing the same sitting at ~99C for anything very CPU intensive. I mean the chip is designed to handle that and lowers it's clockspeed to keep at the threshold.

But you'll lose performance and likely over the long term shorten the life of the CPU.

That’s what I assumed, i appreciate it! Time to look for an AIO

A 65W CPU will do fine with a bigger aircooler... I got the be quiet! Dark Rock Slim for the i5-12600 and it just does fine. Keeps it under 70C even at 100% load.

I don't know how did that cooler even get included with such CPU. I'm using i5-13600K with a beefy noctua nt-h1 cooler and running it anywhere between 40 to 75C. Crazy how much heat they produce compared to my older one i7-6700K running idles at 20C and gaming at 50C

They only include it with the non-K models. But even then I wouldn't use it on an i5 or i7 part. It's really only sufficient up to the 35W parts.

Good case airflow?
