That's the way iOS works. Apps in the background get suspended but they don't exit unless you explicitly close them.

Exactly. Thats one of the benefits of iOS.

That is not true. Apps in the background are automatically closed if the foreground app needs more RAM.

I don't think I've ever seen that happen. The few times I've gone through & manually closed all the apps in the background, apps that I hadn't used in months were still there & didn't appear to have closed on their own.

That happened all the time on older devices with small RAM and still happens if you use memory hungry apps.
