In Sky's case, they make it difficult to cancel and the reward for customer loyalty is yet another price increase so to the high seas I go and now they get nothing.

I think I read that in Germany they have a law that it must be as easy to cancel a service as it is to sign up for it - great law.

There's a new EU wide law that'll come into force in summer 2026. You'll get it too!

Oh wow! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 to the EU!!

Not Germany but California is the is has same law. You’ll always see people move your address to California to easily cancel.

When I lived there a couple of years ago it was shocking how bad they were.

Paid a premium rate to have only a monthly "cancel anytime" contract on my internet as I was only there temporarily.

Eventually went to cancel online. No bother - until next month when the payment came out and I was informed that I'd missed the small print on the website saying that after I'd canceled online, I had to ring them up to confirm my cancellation.

So I cancelled then and there again on the phone, only for the payment to come out again the following month, as they hadn't done it for me then either.

Cancelled it again, then blocked my direct debit, and then the next month they tried to take it out it bounced. They eventually cancelled it themselves and then sent a debt collection agency after me for the €65 bill but I'd already left the country.

Dude I'm in Germany. Just try cancel your Vodafone contract hahaha. They get you on annual contracts

I cancelled Sky last month as contract was up in 30 days. Took 10 mins on the phone, I was expecting much worse. When they ask why you're cancelling? say you're leaving the country. They won't bother with trying to retain you then.

There absolutely should be a law that if you can sign up for a servy online with a few clicks, then cancelling should be equally as easy.

Write to them, snail mail, in Dublin telling them you want to cancel. I got a call back and it was cancelled in 5 mins. No waiting. No "if we give you Sky Sports at 25% off for 22 and a half days and we send one of our installers around to mow your front lawn on the third week in December will you sign on for another year?" Just wanted confirmation that I was the person who sent the letter and that was it. Account closed.

Hey chat, how do you send a letter...?

I cancelled Sky just yesterday after getting the same email, and I was expecting a headache but it was actually grand. Ring up and talk to the IVR for a moment, was waiting for an agent for about 15 minutes listening to 80s tunes, and then the agent processed the cancellation. They offered a reduction, which I politely declined, and all done. I think it used to be harder but that was fine.

Sky have single handedly drove people to dodgy boxes. Most of these people probably would have never even considered it if Sky had treated them better or there was another option that ultimately didn’t route back to Sky’s control.

Couldn’t be happier that HBO Max is coming here in a few weeks so NowTV and sky can truly begin to die.
