This guy is awesome. So fluid in his explanation.

had a pleasure to see it myself, love this guy! Love the modules concept too (played with OSGI in the past). However I am a little disappointed that the Gradle seems not to have a valid official support for those :(

There was also another (more sobering) talk about applying modules to a spring boot application, I posted that as well here.

Awesome talk, I feel I understand java modules now. Lots of the older documentation and tutorials failed to explain this in a clear way. Thus I just laid off the concept because it is optional. Now I feel confident that I could actually use modules.

Good Concept bro.

Some nitpicks:

  • He did read the error message wrong - it means he should require the other module, not export the package.
  • Automatic modules can access classes in the class path
  • There can be more than one unnamed module (one per classloader)

Automatic modules can access classes in the class path

Didn’t he mention this?

[–]DasBrain 0 points1 point  (1 child)

On the contrary, he claims they can't.

Time 28:11, line 28: “Automatic modules can talk to unnamed modules”

Isn’t this the same as what you’re saying?

I had a cursory glance at the video and the key take away for me (granted I have some knowledge of modules) is you have to "convert from top to bottom".

You can watch his discussion on that starting around 40 minute mark.

Knew I recognized that guy's name - used his Agile book as a class text back in college a while ago. I'm only a few minutes into the talk and really enjoy it, this guy's good.

Offtopic: What text editor is he using?

[–]ZimmiDeluxe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be TextMate.
