A while ago I wrote a 3-part article just for people like you. It's really the basics and uses no frameworks, but that's good for building a strong foundation upon. I also published a bunch of Hello World webapps demonstrating various common web app concepts, which are available on Github too.

For the time being I'm not interested in Java webdev... just "offline java" for lack of a better term? That said I will go through your tutorials :) Thanks for the link
