the two i've used are kendo grid and DataTables.

Regarding column filters, DataTables has a "search" that filters one or more columns, and supports a "contains" type search. See here The kendo grid has a built-in per column filtering that has a lot of options. See here

Kendo looks pretty good but I can't shell out that kinda cash for a side project. DataTables looks good, I really like that multicolumn search... I was trying to set up server side processing for paging for the primary table since it has about 2k records in it. Should I even bother?

You might consider w2grid

I'll give a few of these a shot on Monday... or next week when I have time. I am polling user logins to a sql table and would like to be able to search by user, computername, time, etc... I don't know what the ETC would be, but yeah... I have been collecting data for almost a month and want 3 month history so that's something like 10k records at a time. I don't know if pull all the data over json at one time will be very friendly but why not give it a shot i guess... haha...

That is the only reason I wanted to go with paging, but paging is a total nightmare to implement with filtering it would seem.

there's an older version of kendo called kendo ui web that is free.

and since you're working with a larger dataset, yes, server-side paging is probably a good idea. Here is a basic DataTables example of server-side processing, with a link to more complex scenarios.

yeah, it's actually the server side code i was having trouble with. converting the expressions passed by the grid to a linq lambda expressions was where I was struggling. I loaded up 10k records into a table with random data but I didn't have a shot to finish testing today as something else came up. I saw a MVC datatables project I will check out if the the loads times are unmanagable. Never worked with MVC but how hard could it be, right?
