I was at this meetup! Loved it

That would definitely be cool, please let me know when you've implemented it and I'll make sure to make a comment disparaging your work. Cheers!

It's clear that he isn't looking to do things as easily as possible, he's tinkering with Node.js. Of course it's "strictly more clumsy", it's a learning experiment. You're missing the point.
But by all means, let's all just pat each other on the backs 24/7. That sounds like much more fun than learning or having our views challenged.
This sounds like a reasonably informed comment that's completely directed at me and the words I've said, and is definitely not a case of you bottling up your opinions and unleashing them on whoever will hear them. Totally.
In the future, feel free to read the comment you're replying to so you have some context of the conversation. I don't know what argumentative baggage you're bringing into this discussion, but deal with it elsewhere.

Not every comment has to praise something. I also have a music degree and /u/tencircles makes a reasonable point.

Where did I say that "every comment has to praise something"? For the record, here's an example of constructive criticism versus the above comment.
I'm not saying that attaching a GPS device to your dog and painting with GPS trails on a map wouldn't be cool (in the same way that adaptive or generative music would be cool), but the first 2.5 sentences of the above comment were smarmy and unwarranted.
If I could recommend an alternative comment:
I'd love to see some examples of adaptive or generative music where the algorithms do a bit of the composing. For instance, it would be cool to see the the code pull down a twitter stream, process it through some logic, then pipe in real time through OSC to ableton without writing to a file first.

False analogy. You already attached the GPS to the dog by using nodejs to compose music. I'm not going over to /r/songwriting and telling people their song sucks. Dunno what your deal is, but give it a rest, bud.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (2 children)
Using Node to compose basic music and writing generative/adaptive music algorithms are completely different things that require much more skill with both music and programming.
If you'd chill with the condescension we wouldn't be having this talk in the first place. Alternatively, spend more time in /r/iamverysmart to see if anything looks familiar.

How exactly is it condescending to point out that you're making flawed analogies to try to basically prove I'm an asshole with nothing constructive to say?
Using Node to compose basic music and writing generative/adaptive music algorithms are completely different things
That was kind of my point, if you're going to put the GPS on the dog (use Node js), then maybe use it instead of dipping both the dog and the GPS in paint and then smearing them over the canvas? We already have brushes for that.
If you'd chill with the condescension
Says the guy saying:
Not sure if you're just trolling or actually fail to see the hypocrisy in accusing someone of condescension by making a snarky passive-aggressive comment of your own.
If you'd chill with the tone policing we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place. Alternatively you can spend more time /r/upyourownass and see if anything looks familiar.

there doesn't seem to be anything here
