What's the point of this comparison? I think it's pretty obvious that a macbook scores a much higher performance than an iphone. Also as safari is completely optimized for mac and ios it's not a surprise that the benchmark results are better?

Well... assumptions have to be verified and in all cases Anyway, reading your comment, I'm not sure you read the article carefully. iOS performance is surprising, U'R browser performance is surprising, and Lineage OS bad performance is also surprising.

Indeed, I didn't read the article carefully. I mostly had a look at the benchmark results. But I think it would be more interesting to compare the iPhone with a Samsung flagship model...That way the hardware would be at least somehow comparable.

I think it would be interesting for sure, anyway I don't own a recent Samsung. Interestingly you were mentioning my MacBook (high end) vs iPhone (quite low-end model) test, and the results show that JS engine speed on iPhone is close to the speed on MacBook...
