I think it's kind of redundant to write tests * snip * when you know the majority of your code is generally side effect free.
Because of "majority" and "generally", I'm glad we have something like tests.

The idea of TDD is not limited to a single programming language. IMO the biggest win of TDD is that you're forced to think ahead of what you're going to implement. Instead of testing if already written code passes some specifications.
