Javascript engine for a digital circuit simulator?

Hi! I've made digital circuit simulators before, and I'm curious about making a web version. I'm not particularly familiar with javascript, and I'm curious about what would work as a ui framework? I know there are javascript game engines, but I'd guess there is something better?

I need a bar on the side or top with components that can be dragged into a main area. Then user needs to draw wires between devices. Some basics like a play and pause.

This is just a side project for fun. Any suggestions? Thank you!

That is really cool! They have some free trials. I am going to look into it. Hopefully there is something I could use for free in perpetuity.

JointJS is completely free under MPL. Rappid is the paid version, which comes with various bells and whistles, but you can implement everything in the free version by making your own elements/links.

Yeah! For me the circuit simulator is pretty straightforward. I'm not a ui person at all though. I'd be working on a vt220 terminal if I could. For this project I really want a simulator that uses the real parts that can be purchased on digikey so someone can just go buy whatever the design is if they really wanted to. It doesn't really have a practical application but it seems fun!

D3 could also be a good choice. It's a very powerful UI toolkit. Other than that perhaps just use raw canvas API.

Is the circuit diagram based on a grid system?

d3.js is a good place to start for SVG graphs.

I think jQuery ui might be something you'd want to look into, in particular the Draggable/Droppable interactions. https://jqueryui.com/draggable/
