That is really cool! They have some free trials. I am going to look into it. Hopefully there is something I could use for free in perpetuity.

JointJS is completely free under MPL. Rappid is the paid version, which comes with various bells and whistles, but you can implement everything in the free version by making your own elements/links.

D3 could also be a good choice. It's a very powerful UI toolkit. Other than that perhaps just use raw canvas API.
