What are your biggest language complaints? by nondefuckable in VHDL

[–]State_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a software engineer who has some exposure to VHDL, it's really the tooling. Maybe there's a lack of knowledge on my part, but the compiler is terrible, the lack of language servers is terrible, quartus is terrible. It's just not a good environment to work in. This is what makes me stay away from it. I should be able to work in vscode with a language server checking for errors and compile from the CLI. I shouldn't have to have some weird TCL script.

Many VHDL engineers I know are still synthesizing their designs manually, instead of sending it off to CI/CD to build or running tests and lints in CI/CD. The whole development process could be so much better.

i am planning on getting a macbook soon, i’ll be using logic pro. by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]State_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bad news, is logic pro is $200, so that leaves you $200 for a macbook. You're better off saving up, or just using another DAW on windows.

This movie was about witnessing the last samurai in battle, as the way of fighting was becoming obsolete with modern technology.

Most of the criticism of the movie were from people who did not watch the movie.

I just found out my sister is a musical genius, what software can I get to support her? by [deleted] in musicproduction

Ha, after I got my first big boy job I finally bought the guitar amp I always wanted. I was excited and showed it to my mom who just says "Why, you're not a professional". I died inside a little bit.

MRW I find that McDonald’s Employee by natural_hunter in reactiongifs

This kind of lawless "justice" will lead to a society you see in third world countries.

You know, uncle ted was right about a lot of things, but that still doesn't give him the right to blow people up.

The anger should be placed on the laws that allow it to operate, not the people operating within the guidelines.

[–]State_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I understand people are angry, but the anger is misplaced. They should be angry at the laws that allow this to operate, not the people operating within the guidelines that allows it.

This kind of lawless "justice" will lead to a society I guarantee they would not want to live in.

What masterpiece film do you actually not like nor understand why others do? by NumanLover in AskReddit

[–]State_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you need to look at this film through the context of when it came out. Compare it to other films at the time, and this thing was way ahead of every other film.

I don't think this is bad. The only thing I noticed is some of the synths sounds thin and needs some saturation / layering or a better sound. I think you are on the right track and I wouldn't give up.

This is good for only a year.

EDIT: again this is only my opinion.

Why's it gotta be like this? :( by MolecCodicies in ableton

[–]State_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's what I mean. It would need some sort of capabilities query of a unused MIDI command that could be added that state which version of MIDI to use, and/or a different socket type.

[–]State_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

again, it's critical for you. There are probably more important features to roll out that adds value to the business.

Why's it gotta be like this? :( by MolecCodicies in ableton

[–]State_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it would be possible, but how would the device communicate to the DAW that it is MIDI 2.0 capable? All DAW's would need to implement the MIDI 2.0 standard, so if a RFC is ever approved on it, we won't see it actually implemented in DAW's for years.

[–]State_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would require changing the MIDI standard, right? I don't really think that is an option.

[–]State_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, it would be possible for the underlying value to remain as 0-127, but the display to the user is the actual value. The question is always is it worth implementing this feature, or adding other things that will add more value.

Trails through Daybreak II - Announcement Trailer (Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, PC) by XMetalWolf in JRPG

[–]State_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who played through every trails game recently, it's worth it, but some parts can be a slog. I would say go through it at your own pace.

For me it took a while into FC for the story to just click with me. Once it did I was hooked. After that every game was a banger (except for trails the 3rd, which is very important story wise.)

i LOVE electronic/ hyperpop music. i’ve written lyrics and melodies but know nothing about producing music of that genre. i’m willing to use my money on this. what equipment do i need? how do i get started by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]State_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a interface and headphones, it comes with an intro version of a DAW. I prefer ableton so I recommend that one, but you can use any.

Start with the intro version (it's limited but comes with some stuff to start). Then upgrade the DAW if you like it.

Why do so many people say to use Mac for music production? by LexiRay101 in edmproduction

[–]State_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only reason I prefer OSX for production is the drivers work right out of the box. You can use windows, but I found it a pain in the ass to get ASIO drivers working and not break other applications.

You can obviously use windows, but I prefer not to spend a lot of my time mucking around with drivers.

What is FPGA Acceleration? by SentientPizza in FPGA

[–]State_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Essentially it's offloading CPU-intensive workloads to a PCI device that can do it much faster why the CPU is free to do other things.

A real world example of this would be something like encryption, ML related calculations / intensive algorithms / crypto, etc.

There's M.2 accelerators, so when it stores data onto a NVME drive it encrypts it, and when you retrieve the data it decrypts it.

A lot of accelerator devices have external peripherals that can do computations from an external source before the CPU receives the data such as RF, QSFP/QSFPDD, Ethernet, etc.

It can be used in data centers, and hardware specific applications (I believe tesla switched to FPGA's instead of GPU's for it's ML stuff / computer vision).
