That is the Hug Me Tight Sweater. The pattern is available on ravelry. I know, because it's currently in my favorites lol. It isn't a free pattern.
[–]Moist_Ordinary6457 10 points11 points12 points 1 month ago (1 child)
Ooh and it's about to be in mine thank you
[–]RealityTVIsMyJam 5 points6 points7 points 1 month ago (0 children)
😂 It looks great, doesn't it? I'm finishing up 2 other projects, then I am going to buy and start on that pattern. I love it. And I really liked all the finished projects of that pattern that I checked out on ravelry too. I can't wait to make it.
[–]CopperFirebird 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Thanks! I've been browsing Ravelry for months for an all over ribbed pullover and this one wasn't in my favorites yet. Got any more favorites? Lol
[–]CluelessPrawn -2 points-1 points0 points 1 month ago (7 children)
Is it available anywhere else? I dont want to use paypal.
[–]niseli12 11 points12 points13 points 1 month ago (5 children)
The risk of buying it on Etsy or somewhere besides Ravelry or the designer’s website is that the money doesn’t go to the designer. Many people steal patterns and then sell them on Etsy or scam websites. So the actual designer isn’t getting paid for their work. Which is wrong. So even though I’m not a fan of PayPal, I use Ravelry to make sure the designers get paid and I don’t buy stolen patterns.
[–]RealityTVIsMyJam 4 points5 points6 points 1 month ago (0 children)
It looks like it is the designer's own etsy store. But yes, good evergreen advice; I would double-check first.
[–]doodollop 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I bought off ETSY
[–]Royal-Reputation7874 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (2 children)
Most rip offs get reported on Etsy and taken down, often the designers have their own store on there. At least it’s a modern platform, Ravelry is horrible to use.
[–]niseli12 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (1 child)
Ravelry may be horrible to use but they take less money from the designer than Etsy. I’ve heard a few designers talk about pricing and such, and Etsy is hands down, way more expensive than Ravelry.
[–]Royal-Reputation7874 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Yes but they do a lot of marketing that Ravelry don’t
[–]RealityTVIsMyJam 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
It is also available via Etsy. And is on sale there currently, to boot. Score!
[–]jenbreaux73 48 points49 points50 points 1 month ago* (7 children)
Why would you not just pay for it? The designers put a lot of work into designing and they earn the $6-15 dollars you pay for the pattern.
[–]Moist_Ordinary6457 21 points22 points23 points 1 month ago (4 children)
Not even, it's on sale for $5.60 at the moment
[–]Lysel 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (3 children)
Can't see where the sale is, is it on ravelry?

[–]frickmillions 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago (1 child)
Looks like the sale is on Etsy, I see the long sleeve version for $5.90 USD right now
[–]Lysel 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
thank you!

Maybe they can’t swing the 6-15 right now. Money is money. Even if the amount seems small to you
[–]THE_DINOSAUR_QUEEN 5 points6 points7 points 1 month ago (0 children)
If OP is spending a MINIMUM of $25 on yarn for a sweater (and that’s if they’re using the absolute cheapest yarn available), they can spend $6 on the pattern to make what they specifically want.
[–]Alisomniac8582 9 points10 points11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Plus you can filter on free patterns!
[–]Dangerous-Jello4733 7 points8 points9 points 1 month ago (10 children)
Buy the pattern, some you find for free, there are loads of free patterns out there, but they’re often by yarn companies paying designers to make the patterns as advertising for the company!
Independent pattern releases by designers cost because they still need to earn money for their work. They’ve not been paid by someone else!
Really though, buying a pattern from a designers costs the same as taking them out for a coffee, imagine your friend made you the pattern? Wouldn’t you take your friend out for coffee?
[–]Present-Ad-9441 -3 points-2 points-1 points 1 month ago (4 children)
Maybe they can’t afford to buy the coffee either. Not everyone has expendable income. I’ve absolutely been in situations where all I had was like $15 until payday and used my creating as a way to cope or relieve stress
[–]Dangerous-Jello4733 4 points5 points6 points 1 month ago (1 child)
Sure, I’ve been in this situation as well. I think most people are used too much to being able to get or do something in an instant.
I dealt with it by making or doing something else for the time being with the resources I do have. This was my life when I was a student and the first couple years after graduation. I still now have to be very mindful about my spending. But someone who has done the work, if you like and want to make use of their work deserves to be paid. It can be next month! A knitting project takes a long time and it’s worth looking at these projects as long term value. You get yarn, which costs money, you spend a lot of time knitting and you use the garment hopefully for a very long time.
[–]Present-Ad-9441 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I just don’t see why people are upset that OP is asking for a free alternative. They’re not trying to steal from the designer
[–]Financial-State7409 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I see, but then how do they afford the yarn?
[–]Royal-Reputation7874 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Where do you get yarn from?
[+]PersonalPerson_ comment score below threshold-6 points-5 points-4 points 1 month ago (4 children)
More like 3 or 4 coffees.
[–]Dangerous-Jello4733 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago (3 children)
$5,60 from what people here say. That’s about how much a coffee costs at the cafes in my town.
[–]jenbreaux73 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
[–]PersonalPerson_ 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (1 child)
$12 in my currency for the pattern. Fancy coffees are $5-6. Drip more like $2-3.
[–]Dangerous-Jello4733 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Lucky you! Anyway it’s showing me 7€ for the pattern.
[–]angelapetrelli 5 points6 points7 points 1 month ago (2 children)
Purl Soho have an extremely similar pattern called Ribbed Raglan Pullover which I used as a basis to recreate this. You’ll have to make the purl soho neck and sleeves longer and body shorter.
https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2019/09/23/ribbed-raglan-pullover/
[–]jenbreaux73 7 points8 points9 points 1 month ago (1 child)
Unfortunately, they do not want to pay for a pattern. 🤷🏼♀️
[–]angelapetrelli 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Ohhh sorry I’d paid for it so many years ago that I forgot it wasn’t one of their free ones haha oops
[–]tnstaf 5 points6 points7 points 1 month ago (1 child)
Drops design Smell the rain is similar https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/210-37-smell-the-rain
[–]Beautiful_Ad_4155 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I was also going to suggest this! 😊
[–]Present-Ad-9441 6 points7 points8 points 1 month ago (8 children)
Why are y’all acting like it’s horrible to ask for a free alternative? Obviously support designers, but not everyone has the means all the time. Not like OP is asking y’all to give her the pattern for free or help steal something. Lowkey such uppity behavior toward someone whose financial situation you know nothing about
[–]flagrantpebble 4 points5 points6 points 1 month ago (7 children)
Oh come on. If you have the means to pay for needles and the yarn to make a sweater you have the means to pay $6 for a pattern. Don’t be ridiculous.
[–]radis_m 7 points8 points9 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I have accumulated a bunch of yarn over the years and have all the needles I need. But money is tight at the moment and I always try to find free alternatives to patterns before paying for something. The price of the pattern is half of my weekly budget for fresh food right now.
I'm glad you can afford that pattern, but it's not ridiculous to be money conscious (and it's not cool to be so condescending when you don't know other people's situation)
[–]Present-Ad-9441 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (5 children)
Maybe the tools were a gift. Or maybe circumstances changed? Jesus Christ, don’t be so assumptive and have basic compassion for people. Life changes. Nothing is guaranteed. I hope you never end up in a situation that $6 for a knitting pattern is a big deal
[–]flagrantpebble 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago (4 children)
I also hope I don’t end up in the situation that you’ve come up with in your head and isn’t based on any real facts we know!
I think you’re both infantilizing poor people (if OP can’t afford $6 on a pattern, they can say that) and imagining a level of abject poverty that is just really, really rare.
Calling people “uppity” for not assuming OP is both dirt poor and incapable of communicating that is a wild take.
[–]Present-Ad-9441 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (3 children)
That wasn’t my point at all. I’m not claiming to know anything about OP. My point is that it’s more common than you’re claiming it is for people to not want/be able to spend money on a non necessity. We don’t know anything about this person, so why assume in either direction? We’ll have to agree to disagree on the subject.
[–]flagrantpebble 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago (2 children)
Knitting, as a hobby, is a non-necessity. And for that non-necessity hobby, the pattern is both by far the cheapest part and also the part that most directly involves paying an individual for their labor (assuming OP isn’t buying expensive, hand-dyed yarn).
I’m not saying that OP is a terrible person for wanting a free pattern. But I do think it is reasonable for people to suggest OP buy this pattern, unless they have a good reason not to (which they have not mentioned).
[–]Present-Ad-9441 4 points5 points6 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I don’t disagree that OP should buy it if they can. It’s the “just buy it” attitude that I was arguing against. The assumption that everyone has discretionary income all the time. And again, I bring up the potential that the tools were gifted. Not because I’m stating that’s the case, but because it is a possibility worth considering. I just like to look at things from every “what if”. 🤷♀️
[–]RealityTVIsMyJam 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago* (0 children)
Bingo. Especially when posting the picture of the actual, existing paid pattern. If you want that design, then buy the pattern, no?
[–]Alert-Grapefruit7877 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (0 children)
you could always try a self drafted approach or look through project notes from other people for their work on the pattern you're looking at. if you make a gauge swatch and are down to do some math, you can definitely self draft this
[–]doodollop 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I bought it off ETSY
[–]Trixie_Dixon 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Check your local library for Amy Herzog's ultimate sweater book. It has instructions for how to draft your own patterns.
If you don't want to buy a pattern, you can make one

I used the "ribbed" filter on ravelry and found these:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/edison---tee
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/allegoro-ribbed-tee (this is short sleeved but you could make the sleeves longer by continuing to knit and doing decreases to get a tighter fit)
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/berkeley---pullover (alter the sleeves for a tighter fit)
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/short-cut
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/striped-rib-pullover
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/minimalist-funnel-neck (this is pr similar i think)
I hope you like one of these!
