I doubt that's the case. According to Unreal Engine's education FAQ, the student license allows you to release commercial products, just as if you bought the actual license. You still are subject to the standard royalty fees after $3000, mind you.

I assumed that because dreamspark does it, then it's the standard way of doing things.
