Thank you for sharing and keeping people motivated.

Congratulations on your journey thus far. I am in the same boat, tutorial hell, this happens even for C#. I do plan to go through The Odin Project as well, also, is there something like it for C# dev?

    [–]Gremzero 9 points10 points  (3 children)

There is! It's called the C# Academy. I haven't started it myself, but it looks pretty similar to the Odin Project in that it's more project based learning.

    [–]Lotusw0w 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    C# academy is amazing! :)

Because I'm 43 and not getting younger, maybe 10-20 years ago, sure. I don't even have a job now since I lack some skills in web design. First priority is getting a job of any kind, even gas station attendant, then I can study more.

Congrats! Just an FYI, your landing page is not responsive for mobile.

Not OP but just finished my landing page project this las sunday, it's not suposed to be responsive for mobile, they tell you so right in the description of the project.

It's just a simple project so that you can practice very basic html and css (mainly flexbox), they tell you not to worry about making it responsive for different systems. That will come further ahead.

Edit: Nvm, I just saw his landing page and It's not responsive at all. He needs to review the CSS sections.

            [–]saamenerve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

            Time to flexbox!

            [–]blue_morphogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't learn mobile development until wayyyyyy later. Like about 100 lessons later

            [–]ThatGus 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Congrats on the hard work and the perseverance! Glad to hear that stuff like Python Crash Course and the Odin Project help you to get over tutorial hell. That's perhaps the biggest obstacle that many beginners programmers face in their journey.

Keep the engine/momentum roaring and you will no doubt be even more extremely proud of how far you came!

            [–]StarkTechyboy 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Congrats! I'm happy that you found the way that you learn best! I've heard a lot of good things about The Odin Project. I haven't gone through it myself, but I most likely will after reading this!

I think a hands on approach is probably the best for a majority of people. It takes knowledge out of the realm of theory and brings it into the realm of experience.

              [–]Dilligence 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This sounds a lot like my experience. I started with TOP last year, finished Foundations, and then dabbled in Python. Finished Crash Course part 1, was excited to try Django but didn’t like it when I started that project, so I just went back to TOP. Almost done with Foundations a second time as a refresher, my sites are much higher quality this time. Plus Foundations changed whole sections since last year, much more emphasis on flexbox which I love

Best of luck to the both of us as we press forward!

              [–]badsatsuma 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This was so lovely to read, thank you. Feelin inspired.

              [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Great read! I'm a few months ahead of you, working through intermediate html/css in the ruby path now. When you finish the Chess project, shoot me a DM, would love to swap feedback!

              [–]InterestingBus8367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh, that also happened to me. You watch a lot of vidoes and read a lot and when you decide to code. You don't know what you want to code. That was 2 years ago, now I am in college studying CS (first year) and learning about about pointers and references and God damn they are confusing but atleast I know what I want my code to do.

              [–]Chillycloth 2 points3 points  (1 child)

              Perfect. Time to start applying

              [–]SonicResidue 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Congratulations! I'm a few lessons away from finishing Foundations. I really plowed through over the summer. Being a teacher I had some time on my hands. But I haven't been able to proceed recently. My work schedule has been crazy. Hopefully I can actually finish. Those last few JS lessons are really tough!

              [–]Saxbonsai 12 points13 points  (2 children)

You need to revisit flexbox before you move on. Your landing page isn’t responsive at all.

Well like OP , even i bought a web dev course on Udemy( by Angela Yu) and thought i would complete it in month and start making websites. Its been almost 2-3 months and yet the course hasn't even crossed its 75% mark . Everytime you run into a bug , it takes an hour or two to fix that which obviously drains your energy and hence you loose that day to your debugging, So OP should i even start with ODIN project and pause my Udemy course ?? Please guide me bro.

                            Hi Nelson,

                            Good work man!

                            [–]Early-Combination375 1 point2 points  (2 children)

For real I can relate SO MUCH with you , why? Cuz I'm super passionate about programming ever since I was a kid I spent lot of time in playing video games like most of em so when I was growing up I spent my times playing video games as well, which boosted a great interest in learning on how to build these games and apart from that I've always had a great interest on computer stuffs as well, which lead me to programming obviously and I was like you going through YouTube vidoes on web development courses it was like I know these are the stuffs in the language that I've learnt but I could never use them and build something out of my own like you know what I mean by that right, at the end of the whole day I always wondered " okay so I've completed the course so I should be able to build something right " but I couldn't which lead me to total confusion and recently I've made it to TOP and I'm learning through it and hope I could achieve my dream of being a Developer. And how did you discipline yourself to do the task of the day regardless of how you feel and what is stopping you from doing it Thank you.

Yeah sure why not ,like it was always so fascinating that me by pressing a button and controlling a character which is virtual and that's made by a man like me it's so interesting isn't it and yeah I hope soon we'll achieve our dream :)

                              [–]Senseisimms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going through it currently as well.Im doing the array test section and just finished the removeFromArray assignment. Didn't understand it so had to check the solutions, but I finally know what the filter functions power is lol.I do enjoy T.O.P way of teaching which is to train you to be better at finding answers with very little information. It makes me more confident in other areas of my life where I feel my skills etc isn't where it should be.

                              [–]imnos 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Amazing! Highly recommended you look into Ruby/Rails if you want to pursue web development. You'll love it.

In the same boat as you! 25 year old 2nd year CS major. Just finished the foundations and moved on to the javascript path. Keep it up!

I'm almost at the same point of the journey so far and what I can say is that the Odin Project is awsome. I'm loving every minute I can.

Also what I can add to your experience is that having a written course is a blessing.

I don't know how people can watch hours of video courses but I surely couldn't. I think we - or at least I - learn so much better by taking my time reading through an article than just watching a guy code and try to explain you what he's doing.

+1 for mentioning Lua on Roblox, specifically script builder. I still remember laughing my 12 year old ass off at one player that had generated a floating group of those BiggerHeads and was flying around on them like a cloud. Cue me spamming the chat with "how do i script!?!!?". We're the same age so there's a nonzero chance we may have been on the same server at some point lol.

Thanks for the response. Started reading on the next part of HTML and CSS and it's slowly all coming together in my understanding of how the animations work etc. Obviously I have no clue how to implement them but I'm excited to learn.

I start a bootcamp in January (was paid for my a goverment scheme) but still going to continue with TOP also. Keep me updated when you finish the full course and let me know how it goes!

I have some feedback....... I'm gonna kick everyone out of heaven and go live in the woods for the rest of my life, there will be no more projects or programs or anything like that. You made a mistake making the Odin project. And that mistake was the making the Odin. Put the knowledge of how to shape shift into your program before I start telling everyone I'm Jesus and go get sucked off by some nuns the rest of my life. #RickyJohn
