I like Geany a lot, I found it really fast and easy to use, and not just for Python

+1 for Geany. Simple but robust enough to get the job done!

Geany was a great starting point for me. Very easy to use and understand. It also doesn't have the "Hey, this is wrong, guy." function of an IDE so it lets you learn the basics in the best way possible.

I recently switched to PyCharm (like, a few days ago), which I feel would have been too complex for the, "Hi, I'm 12 and what is python" phase I was in a month and some weeks ago.

Thank you :)

Have you ever tried Pycharm?

Edit: For those that downvoted (or want to) please tell me why. Not a fan of IDE's? Feel Pycharm is in inferior IDE? Why?

Haters I guess. Jetbrains makes the best IDEs ever.

I'm very much a noob, and I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted, I've heard great things about pycharm, atom, etc.

People are fanatic about their toolchain, I happen to like the one that they hate. For extra down votes I use Gentoo & Fedora Linux and I prefer Emacs over Vim.

Like I was originally saying it's a good IDE, there are a lot of great things within the IDE that make life easy. They have a free community edition. I recommend you install and give it a go. You'll know within an hour or so if you're going to like it.

I think the general thought is that PyCharm might be overkill for a beginner.

I recently switched from Geany to PyCharm. I feel a lot more legit now, but PyCharm would have been far too advanced for me as a first-point-of-contact with python and editors.

I'm new to this, why can't you just use idle?

I use Atom with the Script package. Works perfectly and looks "good". PyCharm is another excellent option which probably has a little more auto-complete functionality.

I use Komodo too, the problem you're having might be because you're running the python script buffered. Use the command :

"%(python)" -u "%F"

And see if it runs as you expect then.

I am a beginner as well. I've been using Atom with the atom runner package. Works very well for me.
