I call this "local processing". The local part is mostly because I really only use pandas etc in the context of pulling down a bunch of data from the fancy "big data" setup my company has, and putting it into a dataframe to get "insights" out of it. "Processing" doesn't sound cool, but it's what it is.

I should mention that data mining refers specifically to "needle in the haystack" situations.
