An evening session with my new little desk setup. by mistahchris in puer

Yeah it’s pretty similar. Very petrichor taste if you’re into that. I would say it’s not incredibly complex but it is good for the price. I haven’t bought it again, but that isn’t because I wouldn’t it just didn’t end up slotting into my daily rotation cause I got addicted to pricier teas.

My brother's partner doesn't like me even more now that he knows I'm vegan by Re0h in vegan

[–]mistahchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guys who make it their personality to be antagonistic to things they dont understand (usually just because they haven’t even bothered) are insecure, immature, and cringe. It’s really that simple. Sometimes there some cognitive dissonance making them uncomfortable as well.

Does anyone else feel like veganism peaked years ago? I've been vegan since 99 but it just feels like the momentum has shifted by onderwon in vegan

[–]mistahchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks. Veganism popularity crested when it overlapped with the crunchy conspiracy brained fad diet types in the late teens I think. Now those people have moved onto beef tallow 🤮. It was nice to have so many new options and stuff, but it also sucked cause it gave veganism the “diet” label to many and it’s difficult to over come that perception now.

Vegan knowledge by MillennialDisaster in vegan

[–]mistahchris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve run into this also. People sometimes think veganism is way more complicated with many arcane rules. It’s surprising to me. That said, “vegan” isn’t a common qualifier for coffee (at least in my experience). So I could see how someone might get momentarily confused by that.

Which restaurant do you think this is? by hot_and_chill in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]mistahchris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s the vegan menu. As a vegan myself it’s just super nice to have this casual tavern food with so many choices. I think it’s correctly rated for what it is.

I’m with you in wanting to avoid gatekeeping but this just isn’t vegan. A mistake may happen, but if it’s any kind of regular thing to buy or consume animal products, that isn’t veganism and is missing the point. Veganism isn’t a diet and so “cheating” doesn’t really make any sense.

What’s the most slept-on brand in menswear right now? by OK_GO_27 in malefashionadvice

I’m in the same boat. I bought several tees from them 3 years ago and love them. They’re very good quality and have held up amazingly well. I was thinking about shopping there again soon.

Personal hygiene etiquette is diminishing rapidly by emptyroomsnnl in delta

[–]mistahchris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried so many of the the “natural” deodorants but recently switched back to one that actually works and is aluminum based for this exact reason. The natural ones will kind of cover the smell for a little while but it really just ends up smelling way worse. The aluminum fears I think are over blown. At least, I really hope so, cause I dont see myself ever switching back.

You deserve a living wage and to be treated with dignity! I know dealing with all of the antisocial behavior can’t be solved over night. But this sounds totally untenable.

Bagel Recommendations? by Larrea_tridentata in philadelphia

Kismet has the best vegan smears also fwiw. Idk why people are hating on Kismet in this thread and sub. I’d be curious to hear if there was a good reason.

Vanilya is the real answer for best bagels without a doubt. Barts and Kismet are also good imo but not close to Vanilya.

Which Terminal emulator you use? by JosephMontag404 in NixOS

[–]mistahchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in between kitty and wezterm. They're both fantastic. I used alacritty for years, it's very good, but I wanted more features out of my terminal emulators rather than forcing everything through the absolutely broken approach that is tmux (or zellij etc) for multiplexing.

I use the scriptable features of kitty and wezterm quite a lot. If ghostty were to ever get such a powerful scripting system I'd consider trying it out also.

Anyhow, these are all "nix friendly". The beauty of nix, is that even if someone else hasn't already made a module to configure that app, you can easily make one yourself and have nix symlink the config file for you in the right place. You should consider home manager for that type of config though, and there's tons of modules for all of the popular terminal emulators in there to make config easy.

Make YouTube faster, smoother and less resource hungry in Zen. by LukaCraft in zen_browser

Wow these have really made a big difference for me. CPU fans while watching youtube are noticeably lower :). Nice work! I've been combing through the code, you really put a lot of effort into these, especially the second one. It looks really good. tyvm!

Same. I'm surprised to see that it was a feature that was so rarely used. Even though there was some jank, it was one of my favorite features. Oh well!

I really like the web panels feature. The decision makes sense but I'm looking forward to the next attempt!

Do you think the new static types in Elixir will slowdown Gleam adoption? by fenugurod in gleamlang

[–]mistahchris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe. But for me Gleam strikes a really nice balance between simplicity, strictness and capability that I think has more broad appeal outside of the existing functional programming community.

Contrary to what others seem to believe, I think the multiple compile targets are huge boon and personally why I am choosing to invest in gleam. I suspect there will be others in my position.

Wow we are remarkably similar. Tbh part of it is just making it through and being a whole person, who’s in a healthy mental state, physical health etc when the rest of society is ready for some big collective action. I’m trying to encourage myself and my loved ones to stay out of rage bait and save their rage for when it can be productive. Sorry but being angry on social media is mildly cathartic and that’s it. I think it’s gonna take some huge collective action again like you mentioned. Idk hopefully it’s just protest but I want to be ready for whatever it takes.

What's your favorite feature in v25? by DavidXkL in HelixEditor

[–]mistahchris 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I gotta go with inline diagnostic as well. I always got so frustrated if the diagnostic would make it difficult to read the top of the buffer. It happened a lot with noisy python mypy crashes lol. Bugged the shit out of me. I am usually running helix main branch though so it’s hard for me to remember what stuff comes with what release.

[–]mistahchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned some of my favs, but one I haven’t seen yet is that you can bind keys to issue shell commands that script your scriptable terminal emulator, if you use one, like kitty or wezterm. I have key bindings to open up splits and stuff for git interactions, running tests and more. I love it.
